Today we took photos to track the progress of the garden and compost.  Some of the garden citizens are doing, well notably the tomatoes, others like the peppers have seen better days.  We purchased plants that are supposed to do well in this season however it has been notably warmer than the average temperatures for this time of year.  We are watering the plants every two days with a few exceptions.  Normally we would avoid putting in plants that required watering for the yard but in this case I think an exception is ok.

Sensible Chicken Salad

Here is a quick recipe we threw together this afternoon.  I wanted chicken salad but did not want to use Mayo… mostly because I do not care for it but also because it is just empty calories.  Using a substitute for sour cream (cottage cheese blended with salt and pepper) and adding in a little mustard worked great!

We built a compost pen in the back yard.  We used metal mesh to create a 6′ x 6′ x 3′ high pen, and we moved all the various yard waste into it.  We filled it!  So now we have about 100 cubic feet of material that will rot over the next year, and be used as supplement for the flower beds.  We will post updates on the speed of the decay.

Welcome to My Carrot Farm!  Even though I am not growing carrots this time I loved the domain name and decided to recycle it!
